The Carolyn Cropped Top

Hi everyone and welcome back! Here I am again with another crop top pattern. As we are nearing ever so closer to fall/winter I want to start transitioning into more warmer garments so if there is anything you want to see me make please let me know. I have so many ideas for sweaters, hats, scarves etc. But in the meantime here is the pattern or the Carolyn Cropped Top.

Materials Needed:

weight 4 yarn
5 mm crochet hook
yarn needle

The Pattern:

Begin by making a chain that reaches from one shoulder to the other. For me that area measured 14 inches so I made a chain of 48, which will fit a size xs/s.

Half double crochet into the 2nd chain from the hook. Half double crochet to end of row. Turn.

Chain 1, (does not count as a stitch), half double crochet across the row to the end. Repeat this row as many times as you like. The more/less rows you do here determines the length of your top. This will be the part of the top from under your armhole to below your bust. I wanted a very cropped style of top so I did a total of 12 rows.

Next row: Slip stitch into the next 3 stitches. Chain 1, and half double crochet across the row until two stitches remain. Leave these two stitches unworked.

Next row: Chain 1, half double crochet across the row to the end. Repeat this row 10 more times.

Next row: Chain 1, hdc2tog, then half double crochet to end of row. Turn.

Next row: Chain 1, hdc2tog, then half double crochet to end of row. Turn.

Next row: Chain 1 and make 10 half double crochet. Leave remaining stitches unworked. This will be your shoulder strap. Repeat this row 11 more times. Cut yarn and fasten off. Then attach the yarn to the other side and make 10 half double crochet. Do another 11 rows. Cut yarn and fasten off.

You now have the back of the top made. Repeat this whole entire process once more for the front of the top.

When you have completed making both parts, lay the both pieces of top of each other and slip stitch the sides together leaving the armhole untouched. Then slip stitch the tops of the shoulders together.

Turn your top inside out and attach the yarn to anywhere on the bottom edge of the top.

Chain 1, single crochet into same stitch, **chain 2, skip one stitch, single crochet into the next stitch.
Repeat from ** all the way around the bottom edge. Slip stitch to the first single crochet to close the round.

Chain 1, single crochet into same space, chain 3, slip stitch into the 1st chain you made (picot stitch), then single crochet into that same stitch. Then ***single crochet into the next chain 2 space, then (single crochet, chain 3, slip stitch into the 1st chain, single crochet) into the next chain 2 space. Repeat from *** to the end. Slip stitch into the first single crochet to close the round.

Attach your yarn anywhere in the armhole and single crochet all the way around to clean up the raw edges. Repeat on the other side.

Then attach yarn anywhere on the neckline and single crochet all the way around.

Weave in all the loose ends and you are now finished. You can follow my youtube video below for a more in depth tutorial.

Chain 3, then make a double crochet into each of the next 2 stitches. Chain 3, then (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) into the  middle of the shell stitch in previous row. **** Then chain 5, skip next double crochet and then make a double crochet into each of the next 5 stitches. Repeat from **** 3 more times. Then chain 5, and then make (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) into the middle of the shell stitch from the previous row. Then chain 3, and make a double crochet into each of the last 3 stitches. Chain 3, turn.

Chain 3, then make a double crochet into each of the next 2 stitches. Chain 3, then (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) into the  middle of the shell stitch in previous row. ***** Then chain 6,  skip next double crochet and then make a double crochet into each of the next 3 stitches. Repeat from **** 3 more times. Then chain 6, and then make (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) into the middle of the shell stitch from the previous row.

***** Then chain 7,  skip next double crochet and then make a double crochet into next stitch (the middle dc of the 3 dc's). Repeat from **** 3 more times. Then chain 7, and then make (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) into the middle of the shell stitch from the previous row. Then chain 3, and make a double crochet into each of the last 3 stitches.

With yarn still attached make a chain of 200. Cut yarn. Attach yarn yarn to the corner underneath that strap and make another chain of 200. Cut yarn and fasten off. Repeat on the other side.

Place a stitch marker in the centre of the the top edge of the body. Grab one of your cups (wrong side facing you) and line it next to the stitch marker and sew to the body making sure the body part is wrong side facing you too. Grab the other cup and sew that right next to the other cup.

For the shoulder straps, make a chain of 300. Cut yarn and fasten off. Fold that long chain in half and weave it through the chain 1 space at the top of the cup. Repeat on the other side.

And that is it! If you want more coverage on the side/back I would suggest doing a few rows of double crochet on the sides of the body part or make the body part using a bigger hook.
