Crochet High Waist Bikini Set

Yes, I know you’re asking yourself, “Carrie why on earth are you posting bikini patterns when the snow on the ground has barely thawed?”. Well my little internet family, I’ve has it up to my eyebrows with chunky sweaters, Pom Pom hats and fair isle this and that. I want to bring back the light cottons, the cheeky Brazilian and the oh so revealing bikini tops. Who’s with me? As you guys know by now I simply love creating summer fashions. Not that I have the body to fit into said fashions ( I can just about fit into a stocking these days!) but I do love them...and can only dream of one day fitting into a cheeky bikini. Hey I can just live my fantasies through all you lovely people! Anyhoo lets get into my newest project. A high waist bikini bottom and bikini top. Both of these are very easy to make and I would even recommend making these to any beginner crochet addict. I decided to design the bottoms with the sides open with just a lace weaved through each side. It gives the bottom a nice touch I think.
Crochet bikini pattern

So what did I use? Any dk weight yarn ( weight 3 ). I recently discovered King Cole Bamboo Cotton Dk. I absolutely love this yarn. Would recommend 100%. I also used a 3 mm crochet hook.

All of my patterns are written in American crochet terms.

This bikini was made to fit a size small. Recommendations will be given throughout the pattern to make bigger sizes.

Bottoms:
Chain 11. Single crochet into the 2nd chain from hook. Single crochet to end of row. Turn

Next row: Chain 1 ( counts as first single crochet ) and single crochet to end of row. Repeat this row until you have a total of 20 rows.

Next row: Chain 1. Single crochet into same space as your chain 1 (increase made). single crochet across the row until you reach the last stitch. Here you will make 2 single crochets into that stitch (increase made). From now on this will be known as the increase row.

Next row: Chain 1 and single crochet across row for a total of 3 rows.

Next row: Increase row

Next row: Chain 1 and single crochet across row for a total of 3 rows.

Next row: Increase row.

Next row: Chain 1 and single crochet across row for a total of 2 rows.

Next row: Chain 1 and single crochet across row.

Increase on every row until you have a total of 32 stitches.

When you have made your last single crochet continue with the same yarn and chain 14. Add more chains here if you want a bigger size (maybe an extra 3-4 chains. Now cut yarn and fasten off.

Attach yarn to the other side and chain 14. Single crochet into 2nd chain from hook and single crochet all the way across the top to the end of the other chain 14. turn
Chain 1 and single crochet across the row to the end. Repeat until you have a total of 22 rows . Add more/less rows here if you want more/less tummy coverage. Cut yarn and fasten off.

Next we are going to attach yarn where we started off with, the crotch area. Make 10 single crochets.
Next row: Increase row
Next row: No increase (ch 1 and single crochet across the row)
Next row: Increase
Next: 2 rows of no increases

Every row from now on will be increase rows until you have 30 stitches. Then with the same yarn make a chain of 14. Cut yarn and fasten off.
Attach yarn to the other side and make a chain of 14. Single crochet into the 2nd chain from hook and single crochet all the way across the row to the other end. Do a total of 22 rows (or whatever amount you like for your preferred coverage.
Continuing on with your yarn still attached, single crochet all the way around the outer edge of the bottoms. Slip stitch to the first single crochet to close the round.

Now you will be making the little holes on the side so you can weave a lace through the sides to close.
Chain 3, skip next stitch, single crochet into the following stitch. (Chain 2, skip next stitch, single crochet into the following stitch) repeat to the end of the waist portion of the bottoms. Repeat this on 3 other sides

For the straps I just made a chain of 200-300 and weaved it through one of the sides. Repeat for the other side.

Bikini top: make two cups!
Chain 16. Double crochet into the 4th chain from the hook. Double crochet across the chain until you reach the last chain. Here you will make (2 DC, chain 1, 2 DC) into that last stitch. Now you will continue working up the opposite side of the chain with double crochets.

Next row: Chain 3, double crochet into every stitch until you reach the chain 1 space from previous round. make (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) into this chain 1 space. Continue down the row with double crochets to the end of row. Repeat this row until the cup is big enough to cover your breast.

Now you will be working on the bottom edge of the cup. Here you will make double crochets across the entire edge. Fasten off.

For the shoulder straps make a chain of 200 - 300  and loop a strap in through the ch 1 space on the top of the cup. Repeat for the other cup.

For the underneath strap make a chain of 400 and weave through the double crochets on the on the bottom edge of the cup.

That's it. I hope you guys enjoy making this bikini set. Keep your eyes peeled for more summer pieces.
