Rainbow Toddler Beanie

For this very simple pattern you will need any worsted weight yarn in a main color, plus a few scraps of any other colors of your choosing! A size 5mm crochet hook is needed as well as an understanding of the Front Post Double Crochet and the Back Post Double Crochet. Check out my Puff Stitch Toddler Beanie pattern for a quick explanation on these two stitches. They can be a bit fiddly when you first learn but once you get the hang of it you will be on the pig's back!!

This beanie is slightly slouchy but if you want it more fitted just do less rounds after you have completed the increase rows.

With your 5mm crochet hook make a magic ring, chain 2, then make 9 double crochet into the ring. Join with a slip stitch to the first double crochet to close. Chain 2

Round 2: Make 2 double crochets into EACH stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the first double crochet. Chain 2.

Round 3: *Make 2 double crochets into the next stitch, then make 1 double crochet into the following stitch*. Repeat from *to* around. Join with a slip stitch. Chain 2.

Round 4: *Make 2 double crochets into the next stitch, then make 1 double crochet into the next two stitches*. Repeat from *to* around. Join with a slip stitch. Chain 2.

Round 5: *Make 2 double crochets into the next stitch, then make 1 double crochet into the next three stitches*. Repeat from *to* around. Join with a slip stitch. Chain 2.

Round 6: *Make 2 double crochets into the next stitch, then make 1 double crochet into the next four stitches*. Repeat from *to* around. Join with a slip stitch. Chain 2.

Round 7-10: Double crochet into each stitch around, then join with a slip stitch. Ch 2

Change color here if you want the same effect as mine. For me it was pink:

Round 11: *Front post double crochet (fpdc) into the next stitch, then back post double crochet (bpdc) into the next stitch*. Repeat from *to* around. Join with a slip stitch.

Change to red:

Round 12: Chain 2. *Front post double crochet (fpdc) into the next stitch, then back post double crochet (bpdc) into the next stitch*. Repeat from *to* around. Join with a slip stitch.

Change to orange:

Round 13: Chain 2,  *Front post double crochet (fpdc) into the next stitch, then back post double crochet (bpdc) into the next stitch*. Repeat from *to* around. Join with a slip stitch.

Change to yellow:

Round 14: Chain 2, *Front post double crochet (fpdc) into the next stitch, then back post double crochet (bpdc) into the next stitch*. Repeat from *to* around. Join with a slip stitch.

Change to green:

Round 15: Chain 2, *Front post double crochet (fpdc) into the next stitch, then back post double crochet (bpdc) into the next stitch*. Repeat from *to* around. Join with a slip stitch.

Change to purple:

Round 16: Chain 2, *Front post double crochet (fpdc) into the next stitch, then back post double crochet (bpdc) into the next stitch*. Repeat from *to* around. Join with a slip stitch.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Make a pom pom if desired and sew to the top of the hat.

  1. Have any advice if I wanted to make this hat more of a childs XS? I thought it would fit my daughter but it was way too small... she was really sad. I'm new to crochet and have no idea how to make a pattern bigger.
