Crochet Alien Crop Top

Yes...my crazy crop top addiction is still going strong! I just can't seem to knock them on the head. I've had a week off work (due holidays) and instead of chilling out and enjoying the art of doing absolutely nothing, I literally spent every moment of it with a hook and yarn. I have so many ideas on future patterns and I'm sure you will all love them. Autumn and winter will definitely not be a let down for any of you!

Anyways, the pattern I have for you all today is not one of my newest. A few years ago I had a little online shop and sold many handmade items from crop tops to beanies. One of my biggest sellers were the alien crop tops. So many people down through the years asked me how I made them but I was too greedy to share with anyone! To be honest, I was also a bit on the lazy side to actually sit down and write a pattern. I was never into writing patterns back then, but now there's no stopping me.

For this crop top I used worsted weight yarn and a 5 mm crochet hook.

For the cups:

Chain 12 with your green yarn

Single crochet into the second chain from the hook. Single crochet to the second last stitch. In the last stitch make 3 single crochets. Place a marker into the middle stitch.

Carry on with your single crochet on the opposite side of the chain and keep going until the of the row.

Chain 1 and single crochet into the same stitch as your chain 1. Single crochet until you reach your stitch marker. In this stitch make another 3 single crochets. Make sure to put the marker into the middle stitch.
Continue with your single crochet until the end of the row is reached.

Repeat this last row until the cup fits your boob but make sure you change to the black yarn for the last 2 rows. Do not cut yarn. Chain 1 and single crochet evenly across the bottom of the cup. Cut yarn now and fasten off. Weave in the ends.

Now make your second cup in the same way!

Put both cups to one side and now it's time to start on the body of the top.

With you black yarn make a chain that is long enough to reach from one side of the ribs to the other side.

Half double crochet into the 3rd chain from the hook. Half double crochet to the end of the row.

Chain 3. Skip 1 stitch and then double crochet into the next.

*Chain 1, skip one and double crochet into the next*. Repeat from * to * until you reach the end.

Chain 3, then double crochet into the 2nd ch-space from the hook. *Ch 1 and double crochet into the next ch-space*. Repeat from * to * to the end.

Chain 2 and make a half double crochet into every double crochet and every ch-space from the previous row. Repeat until you reach your desired length.

Fasten off and weave in all ends.

For the alien eyes:

Chain 5
Single crochet into the 2nd chain from the hook. Then make a half double crochet into the next stitch and then a double crochet into the next stitch. In the last chain make 4 treble crochets. Now turn to the opposite side of the chain. Skip the first stitch. In the next stitch work a double crochet. In the following stitch make a half double crochet and then a single crochet in the last stitch.
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Make three more eyes and put them to one side when finished.

Assembly:

Centre the two cups on to the body of the crop top and sew the on neatly.
Join your black yarn to any of the corners of the body. Make a very long chain. This will be one of your back straps. Repeat for the remaining three corners.

Attach black yarn to the top of the cup. I usually attach mine to the stitch that had the stitch marker. Make a very long chain here. This will be your shoulder strap. Repeat for the other cup.

Now all you have left to do is sew your eyes onto the cups and you are ready to flaunt!
