Third Eye Kitty Beanie

Here in Ireland summer has well and truly ended, not that it really began in the first place!! A week of sunshine is what we expect every year with temperatures reaching on average 22 degrees Celsius. It is now nearing the end of August and with that comes dull, foggy mornings with a slight chill in the air. So out came my yarn and hook and with those I created this third eye kitty beanie. I've definitely noticed these third eyes are becoming very fashionable recently but I've only ever seen them incorporated into summer fashion pieces. So, my dear friends here is the pattern for my third eye kitty beanie.

You will need:
worsted weight yarn
5mm crochet hook

For the beanie:

Make a chain long enough to go around your head. Slip stitch to the first chain to create a loop.

Chain 2, then make a half double crochet into the next stitch.

Continue in half double crochet until the end. DO NOT SLIP STITCH AT END. ROWS ARE CONTINUOUS.
Place marker.

Keep going in continuous rounds and in half double crochet throughout until the piece measures about 8 inches.
When you reach the end of the last round slip stitch into the next stitch.

Single crochet the top of the hat closed.
Finish off and weave in ends.
Turn hat inside out.

For the eye:

8 double crochet into magic ring.
Join new color before you finish the last double crochet.

Chain 2 and make 2 double crochet into each stitch. Join with slip stitch at end of round (24)

Chain 2. Make *1 double crochet in next stitch and 2 double crochet in the following*. Repeat from * to * until the end. Before you finish the last double crochet join the white yarn. Join with slip stitch.

Chain 1. Single crochet into the next two stitches. Half double crochet into the following and then make 2 double crochet into the next stitch.

Make a treble crochet and double treble crochet into the next stitch.

Make a double treble crochet and a treble crochet into the next stitch.

Then make 2 double crochet into the next stitch.

Half double crochet into the next stitch and then single crochet into the next six.

Make 2 double crochet into the next stitch.

Then make a treble crochet and a double treble crochet into the following stitch.

2 double crochet into the next stitch.

1 half double crochet into the next stitch.

Single crochet to end.
Slip stitch into the first single crochet of the round to close.

With some black yarn single crochet around the eye. When you reach the second double treble crochet make 3 single crochets. Continue in single crochet until you reach the fourth double treble crochet. Make 3 single crochets in that stitch. Single crochet to end of round and slip stitch to join.

Join new contrasting yarn.

Chain 1. Single crochet into same stitch. Chain 4. Slip stitch into the first chain of your chain 4.
Slip stitch into the next stitch.

*Single crochet into the following stitch. Then make 4 chains and slip stitch into the first chain of your chain 4. Slip stitch into the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * until the end.
Join with a slip stitch to the chain 1 at the beginning of the row and finish off.
Cut yarn leaving a long tail. Sew eye onto beanie.

There you have it. Your very own third eye kitty beanie is now finished and ready to wear.
Enjoy!
Lots of love

  1. Your pattern is off, you missed some steps. You went from 8 stitches to 24 stitches, skipping the Row of 16. Then, you went from the Black yarn to the White yarn skipping the Blue. So it's hard to grasp the stitch count if the steps are off.

  2. PS That was on the EYE the steps are missing, not sure about the Beanie as I have not yet done it. I only needed the Eye.

    Thank You
